Carolyn Owino

Carolyn Owino is pushing health systems beyond function toward justice. Trained as a nurse, her journey began at the bedside, where she witnessed both resilience and deep systemic gaps. Over 15 years, she has moved into education and systems leadership, shaping inclusive curricula, strengthening institutions and advancing gender-responsive approaches rooted in dignity and lived experience.

Her work spans East Africa, with a focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and equitable access. Carolyn is driven by a central question: how can governance shift from managing people to truly serving them—especially those most often left out?
