Jose is the executive director of the Regional Center for Responsible Business and Entrepreneurship (CREER), a Colombian think-and-action tank that promotes respect for human rights in business activities. CREER is the Latin American chapter of the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) based in the UK. Jose leads projects related to just and responsible transitions, responsible sourcing practices in the agricultural sector supply chains, conflict transformation in coal mining territories, Voluntary Principles on security and human rights, and alliance management for local governance and sustainable development.
Before joining CREER, Jose served as a practitioner and legal advisor to the public and private sector, and NGOs in issues related to transitional justice, human rights public policies, corporate sustainability, sustainable development, and indigenous people’s issues. He has relevant experience in the Business and Human Rights agenda throughout the last 18 years. Additionally, he lectures at the master’s and postgraduate levels in Colombia and Mexico on issues related to Supply Chains, Just Transitions, Human Rights Due Diligence, Forced Labor Prevention, and Corporate Sustainability.
Jose is a lawyer from the Pontifical Javeriana University (Bogotá), with a master’s degree in development studies and a specialization in human rights and social justice from the International Institute of Social Studies (The Hague, Netherlands), and a specialization in theories and experiences on armed conflicts from the University of Los Andes (Bogota).
