Gugu Nonjinge is a South African communications specialist, policy advocate, and social entrepreneur whose work focuses on climate justice, gender equity, and social cohesion.
She currently serves as Advocacy Specialist and Communications Manager at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR), where she leads projects addressing the intersection of human rights and environmental policy, with a particular emphasis on the gendered impacts of climate change in Africa.
Her written work has appeared in various national and international platforms, contributing to critical discourse on inclusive sustainability and equitable development. Gugu is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s Now Generation Network (NGN), a pan-African platform that brings together emerging African leaders committed to good governance and sustainable development. In recognition of her contributions to climate literacy and advocacy, she was named one of News24’s “100 Young Mandelas” in 2023.
Beyond her policy and advocacy work, Nonjinge is the co-founder and Director of Operations at Asana Beauty, a premium natural hair salon in Cape Town that promotes Black cultural identity and self-expression. Through both her professional and entrepreneurial pursuits, she continues to shape conversations around justice, representation, and systemic change on the African continent.
